"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
These lines from a poem by Robert Frost have always inspired me. I was born and brought up in the quaint, scenic town called Rourkela in Odisha. A visit to Reliance Infocom's hi-Tech headquarters at Navi Mumbai, courtesy my ex-faculty from NIIT, made me fall in love with Mumbai. So a dad's princess ventured out to chase her dreams in this city with a sparkle in her eyes. I am from a conservative Bengali family where daughters are highly qualified, but get settled after marriage. They are not encouraged to pursue dreams. However, my dad supported me and I grew from handling mobile bill disputes of irate Reliance customers to a team leader and then became a collection Manager. My dad was surprised to see the metamorphosis of his delicate daughter to a strong woman who took up challenges with a smile. This city has seen me transform from a girl to a woman, fall in love, break up, get married and become a mother. Then after some years I moved to Dubai where I taught social studies in a Gems school. After 5 years of teaching in Dubai and making some amazing friends, now I am back in Mumbai working as an academic coordinator at an international school. Today when my daughter shares her dreams with me, and says she wants to be an IAS officer, I nod with a smile, because I know that sparkle in her eyes will help her shine.
